Berlin Building #4 — Fotopedia
September 20th, 2005 - Berlin, Germany

This picture, along with the next - both of the 22-storey GSW headquarters in Berlin, with its extraordinary mulit-coloured blinds - was, again along with the next - the most viewed and most favourited photograph of my 2005 Flickr existence. This may have been slightly influenced by the fact that apparently the building features in the popular German soap opera "Verliebt in Berlin", which is currently running at over 600 episodes - but I think it's more to do with a simple Flickr truth : most people are suckers for a bit of colour and a geometric pattern...

This picture was blogged on culturista's fotolog on May 6th, 2008.
And blogged on SmogR on March 5th, 2009.

Berlin

Berlin (pron.: /bɜrˈlɪn/; German pronunciation: [bɛɐ̯ˈliːn] ( listen)) is the capital city of Germany and one of the 16 states of Germany. With a population of 3.5 million people, Berlin is Germany's largest city and is the second most populous city proper and the ninth most populous urban area in the European Union. Located in northeastern Germany on the River Spree, it is the center of the Berlin-Brandenburg Metropolitan Region, which has about 4½ million residents from over 180 nations. Due to its location in the European Plain, Berlin is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. Around one third of the city's area is composed of forests, parks, gardens, rivers and lakes.

Facade

A facade or façade (pron.: /fəˈsɑːd/) is generally one exterior side of a building, usually, but not always, the front. The word comes from the French language, literally meaning "frontage" or "face".

In architecture, the façade of a building is often the most important from a design standpoint, as it sets the tone for the rest of the building. Many façades are historic, and local zoning regulations or other laws greatly restrict or even forbid their alteration.
