The mid-engined Matra Djet debuted as the René Bonnet Djet in 1962,
thus preceding other trendsetters as the Ford GT40 (1965)
and Lamborghini Miura (1966) by several years.
It was built until 1967 and
it had 1000-1250cc engines producing 80-110hp,
but it only weighted between 600 and 700kg.

I would love to see that car tested against a Lotus Elite and an early Alpine A-110.

Mécanique Aviation Traction or Matra (Mécanique Aviation TRAction) was a French company covering a wide range of activities mainly related to automobile, bicycles, aeronautics and weaponry. In 1994, it became a subsidiary of the Lagardère Group and now operates under that name.
Matra was owned by the Floirat family. The name Matra became famous in the 1960s when it went into car production by buying Automobiles René Bonnet. Matra Automobiles produced racing cars and sports cars, and was very successful in racing.
