Tesla Motors, Inc. is a Silicon Valley-based company that designs, manufactures and sells electric cars and electric vehicle powertrain components. It was the only automaker building and selling a zero-emission sports car, the Tesla Roadster, in serial production (as opposed to prototype or evaluation series production). However, Tesla stopped taking orders for the Roadster around mid 2011. Tesla is also developing a zero-emission premium sedan, the Model S, which will be built at the 350,000-square-foot (33,000 m²) Tesla Factory in Fremont, California, starting in 2012. Tesla also sells electric powertrain components, including lithium-ion battery packs, to other automakers like Daimler and Toyota.
