Domine, Quo Vadis?
photo by Art History Images (Holly Hayes) on Flickr
St. Peter sees a vision of Christ while trying to leave Rome unnoticed. Peter asks, "Lord, where are you going?" (Domine Quo Vadis?) and Christ replies he is going to be crucified again. This inspires Peter to turn around and face his own martyrdom. The Chapel of Domine Quo Vadis in Rome marks the traditional spot, complete with a footprint of Christ. Detail of Peter and Paul Window in the ambulatory of Bourges Cathedral, dating from c.1215-25.
