Buzz Aldrin

On July 20, 1969 the largest worldwide television audience in history watched as Buzz Aldrin successfully landed the Apollo 11 Lunar Module on the moon. After Neil Armstrong, Aldrin became the second man to step foot on the moon.

Aldrin served as a jet fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, flying a total of 66 combat missions. He developed techniques that were used on all NASA missions. In 1972, Aldrin retired from active duty after 21 years of service. Since retiring from NASA and the Air Force, Aldrin has remained at the forefront of efforts to ensure a continued leading role for America in manned in space exploration.
