He was given a commission in the U.S. Army as Public Relations Officer.

Only two Presidents since FDR were never in the military, President Bill Clinton and President Barak Obama. President Harry Truman was an Army Captain who served in Artillery. Truman was the President who said the " buck stops here," referring to his desk.
