An Essay About President Obama and A Time for Unity Among All Americans
The message of today's luncheon was one of an honest desire for unity between both politcal parties, and one with an underlying message that was meant to reassure those who are not certain of the President's agenda, that although his message might be political, it is very much an American message and should not be distorted into anything other than differences in political thought.
Of course, political thought can be stretched into all types of fictional venues, but one must remember that it has been Barak Obama's ambition to become President since he was a youngster.
That he has a diverse background should, in many respects be to our advantage. He is, however, finding out that the evil forces in this world are not the least concerned about academics and he is, I believe, adjusting his manner of how he wants to deal with them. He has tried words; he is diplomatic because he was raised to respect diplomatic values, but as time passes and as he reviews our troops, I believe he is just now understanding the real power he has when it concerns our United States Armed Forces. One must agree, that if one took a private and made him General of the Army, there would be more than a little to learn about warfare and troop manuevers. He has, in my opinion, demonstrated, in most instances, a respect for the military that is equal to most every President that has taken the oath of office.
As Americans, we must surely all celebrate the fact that he has proven that old adage that "America is the land of Opportunity." There is a certain amount of fate, perhaps, involved in his election in that he was in the right spot at the right time, but he had planned to be in the right spot at the right time.
Sometimes, when we are in our most severe mood of partisan criticism, we should recall the night America received the news of his victory. It was a moment that will live with all of us as certain historical moments always live in the minds of Americans. And we can follow that moment to the day when he stood before America and became the 44th President of the United States. It is difficult for me to imagine that there was anyone in this country who did not feel proud to be an American and proud of America.
