Trichomes (pronounced /ˈtraɪkoʊmz, ˈtrɪkoʊmz/; from the Greek τρίχωμα - trikhoma meaning "growth of hair") are fine outgrowths or appendages on plants and certain protists. These are of diverse structure and function. Examples are hairs, glandular hairs, scales, and papillae.
