Yonne

Yonne (French pronunciation: [jɔn]) is a French department named after the Yonne River. It is one of the four constituent departments of Burgundy and is located northwest of the region. Its prefecture (capital) is Auxerre with an official number which is 89.

Yonne is a French department which is gaining population every year. That makes it one of the most dynamic in Burgundy today with an average of 0,41% increase per year.

It is the 3rd of Burgundy in terms of population with about 353.000. The biggest city being also the capital: Auxerre with a population of 40.000 and an urban area of roughly 90.000.

The proximity of Paris makes Yonne department a very attractive area because of cheaper land and labour.

It certainly is a place for major developments in the near future: investors, contractors and industrial ventures.

It elects three members of parliament to the National Assembly - in the 20012-17 parliamentary term, two of them are drawn from the right-wing Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) and one from Socialist Party (France) (PS). Its two senators also represent the UMP.
